I read Apley last year and it quickly became a favorite. I wrote about it a few times on here. It really is a great prequel to The Last Hurrah. I don’t know how someone not from Boston would take to it, it really struck something deep with me.
yo, great stuff! i’ve sort of been saving Apley because it’s the pulitzer novel, and marquand heads seem to prefer his ‘40s and ‘50s stuff. i just cracked H.M. Pulham, Esquire (1942) and the writing’s phenomenal, but it kinda feels like he’s playing the hits — bankers, country clubs, harvard, etc.
lemme know if you’d be interested in cracking another of his books and trading notes! i’ve gotta check out Boston Adventure too
I’m hoping to do a few discussion-style posts with fellow readers — bandwidth will be finite but will do my best to compensate in some capacity (this is not a revenue-generating newsletter)
Put me down for So Little Time, which I've been meaning to re-read for years.
Brad, nice! let me know if I can send you a copy?
Thanks, but I have copies of all Marquand’s good ones.
fantastic, i’ll be in touch!

Really, you’re going to send me a neglected book and pay me to read it? What info do you need from me?
